Boiler room scams
Important message for shareholders
It has come to our attention that a number of our smaller shareholders are being contacted by persons calling from overseas with an offer to purchase their shares in Low & Bonar, often at prices vastly exceeding the current market price. We believe that this is not a genuine offer and may be an attempt to defraud shareholders. We understand that the caller has very specific information about shareholders, but that it is sometimes out of date. We do not know how they have obtained this information.
We advise shareholders to take great care when dealing with such matters and never to give personal details, particularly bank details, out over the phone.
The Financial Services Authority publishes valuable information about “scams & swindles” on its website and we advise shareholders to read this information if they are concerned about calls they may receive. It contains links to a list of firms and individuals to avoid dealing with. You can see the FSA’s advice at the following address: http://www.fsa.gov.uk/Pages/consumerinformation/scamsandswindles/index.shtml
You can also contact the FSA’s Consumer Helpline Monday to Friday (excluding Bank Holidays) from 8am to 6pm to report concerns:
